Meet Matt Bullock, our new Technical Manager

Organisations work with us because of our specialist experience and expertise in airflow control and monitoring, so we had very specific criteria for our new Technical Manager. In summary, they would need proven experience across compliance and performance, and combine a detailed understanding of electronics and traditional control methodologies with a strong working knowledge of lab and cleanroom compliance.

We found an excellent fit in Matt Bullock.

Matt’s background

A degree-qualified ventilation specialist engineer, Matt’s background combines substantial experience across engineering, operations management and project delivery.

His strong technical knowledge spans HVAC and LEV design, installation, and performance verification and he has extensive experience delivering projects in laboratory and pharmaceutical environments from design phase through to handover.

What will he do at TEL?

Matt’s role includes:

  • Delivering technical support to clients and internally to the TEL team
  • Designing and configuring laboratory control systems
  • Commissioning and testing systems, on-site and remotely
  • Developing new products and features as part of the TEL team.

A key part of his role is to address the challenges our clients face. He explains:

The most immediate challenge is without doubt energy. Ventilation and extraction are some of the highest energy costs incurred by clients, and with rising energy prices and net-zero commitments, they will increasingly demand systems that deliver complete protection while running no harder than they need to.”

Our Variable Airflow Volume (VAV) solutions are well placed to meet this growing need. They can be integrated as part of a new build project or retrofitted to most existing equipment.

Beyond that?

The second – and I think bigger – challenge is meeting the burden of proof required under regulations like COSHH and DSEAR. It’s no longer enough for duty holders to have controls in place, they need to demonstrate, with robust and reportable data, that operators were protected at all times. The ‘defendable position’ is a moving target: what satisfied an inspector or an insurer five years ago won’t necessarily satisfy them tomorrow.”

The real time monitoring, alarms, and logging offered by our automated control systems turn compliance from a periodic paper exercise into live, evidenced protection.
