Spotlight on the Auto Sash Controller

Auto sash controllers have advanced significantly in recent years but ours still leads the field because not only does it enhance user safety, guarantee energy savings and reduce costs, it also hosts a range of features developed in direct response to feedback from lab users.

How it works

The TEL Auto sash Controller uses a passive infra-red sensor (PIR) to continually monitor the work area in front of the fume cupboard, automatically closing the sash when the operator is no longer present and reopening it when they return.

When the operator is present the sash can also be operated manually, by the up and down push buttons, using the Tiptronic touch sensitive feature or by using a foot switch.

Five Features

Our Auto Sash Controllers include a range of features that meet lab users’ day-to-day needs without compromising on safety. These include:

  1. Sensitivity

A sensitivity parameter allows the sash position sensor feedback to be de-sensitised if the sash is stuttering or tight in the sash track. It can be set to allow for a small amount of stutter or slight delay in travel before triggering the alarm.

  1. Motor speed setting

The TEL Auto sash Controller can be configured to select different sash opening and closing speeds. Ideal for reducing over travel in response to counterweight balance problems.

  1. Clutch braking

A clutch braking parameter enables the clutch to be set to remain energised for a short period of time once the drive motor has stopped driving.

  1. Under sash sensor test

This optional feature continuously tests and monitors the under sash sensor operation while the sash is driving to detect a sensor or sensor cable fault.

  1. Sash obstruction detection alarm reset

TEL’s Auto sash Controller can be set to give either auto or manual alarm reset on detection of a sash obstruction. In auto mode the alarm will reset automatically once an obstruction has cleared, while in manual it will stay active until the operator manually resets it.
