2019 has been a big year for TEL. In May, we celebrated our 50th anniversary and everything we have achieved since our launch in 1969. As well as being one of the first companies to develop fume hood airflow controls and monitors critical to the safety of laboratory workers – who until then, had only basic pressure monitors for respiratory protection – we have made a name for ourselves as the leading supplier of environmentally sustainable solutions.
This summer, cross-party MPs endorsed a motion to declare a formal climate emergency, calling for urgent remedial action throughout the economy. The move followed weeks of high-profile direct action by protesters including school climate strikers and Extinction Rebellion, and a parliamentary meeting between MPs and the teenage Swedish activist, Greta Thunberg. The direct action and discussion continues.
As pressure mounts to accelerate the rate at which remedial environmental action is taken, end users will no doubt be faced by ever steeper environmental sustainability targets. TEL is constantly developing new, energy-saving airflow monitor and control products, and this will continue to be the case as the country rises to the growing challenge presented by accelerating climate change.
In the autumn, we created a new video to demonstrate the way in which the TEL Auto Sash Controller works, integrating with both new and existing VAV systems to present a safe, sustainable airflow solution that generates energy savings of up to 85%. The product also integrates with CAV systems.
Auto sash controllers, which automatically close the fume cupboard sash when fume cupboards are not occupied, optimise energy savings. In fact, we believe that the installation of our product has the capacity to save customers previously operating without controllers approximately £1,500 in energy bills per fume cupboard per year, quickly covering its own cost.
Further new sustainable products are already well into development, and we look forward to launching them in the coming year. In the meantime, while the country looks set to face a raft of new and more stringent regulations designed to help deal with the environmental emergency, our customers can rest assured that, with our help, they are already on the right lines.
