In the lab, safety depends on adherence to protocols and procedures but a more flexible mindset is necessary to meet strategic challenges like escalating costs and growing workloads – all the while remaining attractive to funders and investors. This means continually challenging how things are done and making them more efficient and sustainable, without compromising safety.
It’s a balancing act and working with the right products and partners can be decisive to navigating seemingly competing priorities.
At TEL, we’ve been creating pioneering lab airflow control and monitoring systems for more than 55 years. At the heart of our offering is the AFA4000, an airflow control and monitoring system specifically designed to empower lab managers to operate fume cupboards more safely and efficiently.
AFA4000 – Benefits
- Guaranteed energy savings: the precision control of airflow the AFA4000 brings means energy can be used strictly according to need, minimising consumption.
- Improved safety: with full alarm diagnostics and test functionality, a sixty minute timeline of environmental conditions and upgradable field software, the AFA4000 priorities safety and provides lab managers with complete peace of mind.
- Reduced energy costs: using energy according to need helps cut carbon emissions and offers a significant reduction in energy costs of up to 85%.
AFA4000 – Features
Since its original launch in 2017, we’ve been continually updating and redefining the AFA4000 in response to customer feedback and wider industry requirements. Seven years later it now offers:
- Full colour 3.5” LCD Display for continuous velocity reading in m/sec
- Optional auto sash integration
- Three programmable push buttons
- Velocity bar graph or fault time line over the last 60 mins
- Visual and audible alarms
- Three digital inputs and three digital outputs
- Emergency night setback push button
- Diagnostics menu
- Bespoke overlay designs, with a choice of three different coloured cases
- Bespoke software options tailored to customer requirements
Recently we also integrated a gas sensor that monitors filter saturation via a dynamic graph, triggering an alarm if a gas breakthrough is detected or the filter reaches its manufacturer-designated lifespan. This means that lab workers are safer and lab managers know exactly when to replace filters – saving time and money.
