What is Continuing Professional Development?

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is used to describe the learning activities professionals engage in to develop and enhance their abilities.

What are the benefits?

CPD is essential in helping individuals and companies to keep skills and knowledge up to date, this is particularly important in the science and technology sector as it is constantly evolving and changing.

The different types of CPD

Types of CPD can vary significantly depending on requirements with the main types being active, reflective and self-directed.

  • Active: interactive and participation-based study such as training courses, conferences and workshops
  • Reflective: no participant-based interaction, passive and one-directional such as reading relevant news articles and case studies, and listening to podcasts
  • Self-directed: unaccompanied CPD activities such as the reading of documents, articles and publications

Accredited CPD training

Accredited CPD training means the learning activity has reached the required Continuing Professional Development standards and benchmarks and has been scrutinised to ensure integrity and quality.

TEL’s CPD zone

Here at TEL we are supporting the development of laboratory electrical contractors and users with the launch of our new CPD programme, the CPD Zone. The CPD Zone helps contractors and users of laboratory fume cupboard airflow controls and monitors to select the best products and to install, operate and maintain them efficiently, while gaining CPD points.

You can access the CPD Zone via the Knowledge Base section of our website to view the material and test your knowledge at your convenience.

The first of our CPD courses promotes the effective installation, operation and maintenance of the TEL SM6 Airflow Sensor and will be followed by additional courses over the coming months.

We have almost 50 years’ experience – both as a consultant as well as a manufacturer – and the new CPD programme provides a means of sharing this with you, our customers, to support you in your professional development and make your job easier.
